Fried Vegetarian (meat-less) Wontons

Fried wantons are always our favorite snacks especially when its still hot and crunchy....who can resists it?

Normally, they are stuffed with meat inside, it could be in minced chicken or pork meat.  For those who are vegetarian will miss this wonderful snacks if we don't come out something to suits them.

My vegetarian recipe for these wantons fillings are consists of mashed potatoes, tofu, mushrooms, carrots and celery.  I know some of you would not like the taste celery in this, you may substitute with water chestnuts if you wish to have some crunchy feelings or you may use some scallions if you don't.  I even pan-fried the mushrooms before I mixed with other ingredients because I love those mushrooms aromatic smell.

This recipe is perfect for home party, tea-break or even as snacks as it's so easy to prepare.

Hope this easy to make recipe will able to satisfied all of you.  Trust me, it's really simple and you will love it so much!

INGREDIENTS
1 pack of Wonton wrappers
Oil for deep-frying
Chili sauce for dipping (optional)

Fillings:
2 or 3 potatoes, steamed/cooked and mashed
1 or 2 pcs of tofu (depending on the size, I used 1 pc only), cut into smaller pieces.
1 sprig of celery, cut into tiny cubes
1/2 carrot, cut into tiny cubes
3 dark Chinese mushrooms, soaked, removed stems and cut into tiny cubes.
1 tbsp oil for frying mushrooms
Salt and pepper for seasoning
Some scallions for garnishing

Notes:
The above portions of ingredients are just enough for me to used up all the 30 pcs of round wrappers.  You may adjust your own portion of your needs.

Reminders:
If your wrappers are frozen, please ensure you remove them from the packaging and placed in a room temperature for at least half an hour.  This method is to dried up the moist and to avoid the wrappers stick to each others.

INSTRUCTIONS
Heat-up 1 tbsp of oil in a pan and add in mushrooms and fry until its turned brownish and aromatic.  Make sure your mushrooms are dried enough by squeezing out the water before you cut them, so that the oil will not spill all over when you fry them.

Bring the mashed potatoes in a mixing bowl and add-on the pieces of tofu by squeezing it with your hand.

Mix both mashed potatoes and tofu together.

Add in fried mushrooms, carrots and celery.

Mix them well and season with salt and pepper.

It shall look like this after all ingredients are mixed and ready to be wrapped.

Place a piece of wrapper on your palm, wet the edge of the wrapper with water with your finger.  Place a portion (I used 1 full teaspoon) of the filling in the center of the wrapper.

Lift up the bottom edge to meet the top edge.

Gather all corners together and press firmly.

Repeat the same until all fillings are finished.

The following are how does the wrapped Wontons looks like before cooked.

Heat-up deep frying oil in a pot or wok and starts add in the raw Wontons into the oil.

Fry the wontons under medium heat about 3 minutes or golden brown in color.

Drained the cooked wontons on paper towel.

Garnished with some chopped scallions.  (Optional)

Served when its still hot and enjoy!

You may dip it with chili sauce too!
